01

Indicative Valuation

A quick, lower-cost range for an owner deciding whether to sell, answer a buyer's approach or settle a partner's exit, while the number stays inside the business. Intended for internal decision-making; it is not a certified opinion for lenders, courts or the ATO.

"A valuation earns its fee when it survives the people paid to pull it apart: a buyer's adviser, a credit team, the ATO or the expert on the other side. That is the standard we sign to for every Adelaide client."

Adelaide Business Valuations gives South Australian owners a signed valuation that can go to court, at a fee set for a private company rather than a listed one. Whether the report supports a sale, a restructure, a handover within the family, a question from the ATO or RevenueSA, or a matter in the Supreme Court of South Australia, the certified valuer who signs it is the one who stands behind it.

Why Adelaide Owners and Their Advisers Use Us

Certified Business Valuers on Leigh Street, Adelaide

Our office is in Leigh Street, a few minutes on foot from the Square Mile's banks and law firms, and our clients run from Kent Town and Norwood to the northern manufacturing suburbs, Lonsdale in the south and the Adelaide Hills. We know the questions RevenueSA asks about stamp duty, and what the Supreme Court of South Australia expects of an expert.

Reports Written to Be Tested

Every report follows APES 225 and the International Valuation Standards, carries a certified valuer's signature, and sets out each step from the financial statements to the conclusion, so a lender, the ATO, a judge or a rival expert can follow the reasoning.

Certified & Signed, From Seven Business Days

When we have your information, certified Summary and Detailed reports follow from seven business days, in a format the ATO, ASIC, the Federal Circuit and Family Court and the major banks accept.

The Right Report for the Purpose: Sale, ATO, Financial Reporting & SMSF

Selling a wine business in McLaren Vale, claiming the Division 152 concessions, giving an auditor an AASB 13 fair value for a defence supplier near Edinburgh, or valuing business real property held by an SMSF in Wingfield: the first call settles which report fits.

Understand the Number, Not Just Receive It

A closing call walks you through how the income, market and asset approaches applied to your business, so you can explain the outcome to a fellow owner, a buyer or the family.

Valuations for the ATO and RevenueSA

Market values for CGT events and Division 7A, values that support a stamp duty assessment under the Stamp Duties Act 1923 (SA), SMSF acquisitions, and backing when an auditor or a revenue officer starts asking questions.

Certified Valuation Reports From Seven Business Days

Every report is signed by a credentialed certified valuer and built to withstand ATO, ASIC, court and bank scrutiny.

Frequently Asked Questions

An independent, reasoned opinion of what a business or a parcel of shares is worth at a stated date. The valuer brings the earnings to a maintainable level, applies the income, market and asset approaches that suit the business, and reconciles the results into one figure or range that can be defended.
Capitalisation of future maintainable earnings leads for most private companies in Adelaide. Discounted cash flow fits a business whose earnings are on the move, such as a defence or space supplier still ramping up a contract; comparable sales and listed multiples give market evidence; and adjusted net assets suits asset-heavy and holding entities. Rules of thumb are a cross-check only. The industry, the size of the business and the purpose decide which method leads.
Choose a Detailed report when someone else will test the figure: the Supreme Court of South Australia, the Federal Circuit and Family Court, the ATO, RevenueSA, a lender, or an opposing expert in a shareholder or property dispute. If you only want a private view before making a decision, an Indicative valuation is enough. It is intended for internal decision-making and is not a certified opinion for third parties.
Often. A fee paid for an income-producing purpose, or connected with a CGT event, is generally either deductible or included in the cost base. The answer depends on your circumstances, so confirm it with your tax adviser before you rely on it.
A Summary report suits a figure that other people will read but probably will not contest: a sale, a new partner, an employee share scheme, a finance application or an SMSF audit. It is certified and signed, and it sets out which approaches were used and why the conclusion follows from them.
APES 225 Valuation Services comes from the Accounting Professional and Ethical Standards Board and applies to its members whenever they provide valuation services in Australia. It governs how an engagement is scoped, documented and reported. Every Summary and Detailed report we sign is prepared as an APES 225 Valuation Engagement.
A free call settles the purpose, the valuation date and the report type. We then collect your records, normalise and analyse the accounts, apply the approaches that fit, and deliver the signed report on a closing call that explains how the figure was reached.
APES 225 and the International Valuation Standards issued by the IVSC, together with the ATO's market valuation guidelines whenever a tax result turns on the figure. The valuer who signs for this office is a CFA charterholder with the ABV and CBV designations.
Our signing valuer holds the CFA, ABV and CBV designations and has spent more than 15 years on valuations, transactions and expert evidence. Before any report is released, a certified valuer prepared to defend it reviews and signs it.
A certified report is an APES 225 opinion signed by a credentialed valuer. It records the purpose, the standard of value, the evidence used, the adjustments and the reasoning, so a court, the ATO, a lender or a counterparty can rely on it.
Speak first to the valuer whose signature is on the report. If a factual input was wrong, we correct it and reissue the report at no cost. We will not move the conclusion towards a preferred outcome, because the report only helps you while it remains independent.
Yes. We work from 28 Leigh Street and act for owners right across the metropolitan area: Norwood, Kent Town and Unley, Glenelg and Marion, Port Adelaide and the logistics belt around Wingfield and Gepps Cross, Mawson Lakes, Salisbury and Elizabeth in the north, Lonsdale in the south, and Mount Barker in the Hills. We also value businesses in the Barossa, McLaren Vale and the Clare Valley. Meetings run by video or in person, with a site visit when the engagement needs one.
